What are Guidance Education Lessons?

At school, students practice different character traits such as being respectful, being responsible, being proud, being safe, showing ownership, and having a positive attitude. Not only are students rewarded for their Positive Behavior, they also receive guidance education lessons on these important character traits that they can use at home, at school, and in the community that will further assist in their future success as a positive, hard-working member of our community. Once a month, each classroom is taught a guidance education lesson on topics including: Bullying, Mindfulness, Proper Hygiene, Responsibility/Study Skills, Conflict Resolution, and more.

Each lesson is geared towards each specific grade level and may last anywhere between 30-45 minutes. I work collaboratively with teachers each week to establish a time that works best for me to present each lesson to their class. To assist in the learning and practicing of the character traits, I use materials such as books, puppets, and short videos, as well as providing intriguing, educational activities like role-playing, games, crafts, and worksheets.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my classroom guidance education lessons or if you have suggestions for future lessons!

From the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce:

Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, schools are required to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention to students in grades K through 6 annually. Therefore, instruction in child sexual abuse prevention is a required part of our district's curriculum. The materials that Celina Elementary School uses to meet this requirement come from fightchildabuse.org, which is one of the recommendations from ODEW. Upon request, parents and legal guardians may examine instructional materials. Furthermore, upon written request of the student's parent or guardian, a student can be excused from taking instruction in child sexual abuse prevention and sexual violence prevention.
