Minutes from the April 8, 2002 Meeting

The final meeting of the Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) for the 2001-2002 school year was held on April 8, in conjunction with Mr. Shellabarger's Parent Advisory. Student Council officers Amber Dingeldine, Ang Kruse and Casey Howell gave the parent group an update on their organization's many recent activities.

CHAMP President Carol Siefring began the business meeting by introducing the following new officers for the 2002-2003 school year: Elaine Marbaugh - President; Laurie Rohrer - Vice President/Activities Co-ordinator; Suzanne Montgomery - Secretary; and Laura Rolfes - Treasurer. Members recognized the outstanding contributions made by Carol Siefring during her past four years as President. Helen Stover, who served two years as Treasurer, was also thanked for her exceptional service.

After the treasurer's report and minutes were read, Carol Siefring reported on upcoming activities, including the Staff Appreciation Breakfast and the Breakfast of Champions, which honors the seniors who graduate in the top 20% of their class. Honor Roll students for the third nine weeks were recognized with Top Dog cards and candy, and those new to the Honor Roll received CHAMP Academic Excellence window peels. Students who attained perfect attendance during the first semester were recognized with soda and treats during their lunch periods April 3.

Gateway Outreach Center was recognized for printing "Parents Who Host Lose the Most" flyers that CHAMP sent home with midterm reports to all families at the middle school and high school levels. CHAMP also posted "Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk" signs at the high school during prom week, to encourage students to respect the law and make responsible choices.

Rachel Adams and Rita Muether were each awarded a $500 scholarship from CHAMP. In addition, ten students earned free reserved parking spaces for next school year through the VIP Parking contest, which recognizes students who have distinguished themselves by extending exceptional effort to attain personal goals. Winners of the free parking spaces were Jamie Klosterman, Corky Laux, Bud Bonifas, Mindy Carey, Drew Schwegman, Kelly Krugh, Brett Dorsten, Dan Gudorf, Lakshmi Satyanarayana, and Jeremy Stover.

At the Staff Appreciation Breakfast, CHAMP awarded Chamber gift certificates to ten teachers who participater in the Lotto card program this year. Lotto cards are given by teachers to students who have demonstrated outstanding personal or academic endeavors. The ten winning teachers in the drawing were Mitch Metz, Jane Schelich, Kris Hall, Kim Wilges, Jana Hopf, Pat Franzer, Deb Nutt, Amy Kaiser, Ruth Rumple and Betty Clouse.

At the end of the school year, CHAMP sent letters to welcome incoming freshman parents to attend the six CHAMP meetings next year. The first meeting will be held in conjunction with the Principal's Parent Advisory Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on September 9, 2002. FBLA Officers Address the 
CHAMP Parent Organization
News Release March 2002

The Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) met at Celina High School on Monday, March 11. Student Council Public Relations Officer Ang Kruse presented an update about current activities their organization has sponsored at the school and recent leadership conferences members have attended.

Next, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) advisor Lisa Allmandinger  introduced officers Mindy Carey (President), John Thobe ( Second Vice President) and Jeff Vondrell (Treasurer). The officers informed the parent group about the goals of FBLA, activities they participate in and the benefits they have gained through their membership. Celina is the oldest FBLA chapter in Ohio and boasts the second highest membership of state chapters, with 60 current members. Mindy Carey is running for State Secretary and Jeff Vondrell is running for State Treasurer, an office currently held by Ryan Smith. FBLA members will participate in the State Conference in Columbus March 21 - 23.

During the Parent Advisory, Principal Curt Shellabarger discussed the scheduling process, the final exam schedule and the upcoming school levy. During the CHAMP business meeting, Treasurer Helen Stover reported the CHAMP current balance at $7479.30, reflecting 38 business donations, 61 family memberships and 546 CHAMP card sales. Members voted to donate 3 ACT individual software prep kits to the high school media center.

CHAMP President Carol Siefring discussed upcoming activities that include awards for students who had perfect attendance during the first semester, Top Dog card and candy distribution at the end of the third grading period, Breakfast of Champions (which honors the seniors graduating in the top 20% of their class) and the Staff Appreciation Breakfast. She reminded members that two $500 CHAMP scholarships will be awarded this year. Applications are available in the Guidance Department and are due by April 5.

Ten students’ names were drawn from the CHAMP lotto box to receive cash awards for their teacher recognition of recent accomplishments. The March winners were Heather Waterman, Jon Gudorf, Justin Leonard, Samara Hammond, Jimmy Mallory, Natalie Warner, Tim Saintignon, Miletus Miesse, Jessica Hogg and Rachel Wynans.

The final CHAMP meeting of the school year will be held on Monday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the CHS Media Center. New officers will be announced. More information about the CHAMP parent organization can be obtained on the CHAMP web page at www.noacsc.org/mercer/CE. be announced.



MOCK TRIAL Receives Funding from CHAMP

Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) met at Celina High School on January 14. Mock Trial members Laura Snyder, Kelly Snyder, Rachel Adams and Aaron Adams gave a demonstration of the type of roles they will assume in upcoming Mock Trial competition. Following their presentation, Principal Curt Shellabarger conducted the Parent Advisory to update parents about recent developments at the high school.

President Carol Siefring opened the CHAMP business meeting by requesting that Helen Stover read the Treasurer's Report. Current CHAMP card sales exceed 532, and 60 families have purchased CHAMP memberships. Members voted to donate $120 to help pay the Mock Trial registration fee for competition at District. CHAMP members also voted to offer two $500 CHAMP Scholarships to graduating seniors this year. Application forms will be available in the Guidance Department March 1 and are due April 5.

Freshman Scholars, the freshman students with the top ten GPAs, will be announced at the end of the first semester. They will each receive a congratulatory note from CHAMP, a gift certificate donated by CJ's HighMarks, and will have their names posted in the academic honors display case in the main lobby of the high school. All students who make the second nine weeks Honor Roll will be awarded a Top Dog card and candy, and those new to the Honor Roll will also receive a CHAMP Academic Excellence window peel. Honor Roll students who are athletes in winter sports will be recognized at their awards banquet.

Ten students' names were selected from the Lotto box to receive a cash award for the outstanding behavior that was recognized on their Lotto card. January winners were Megan Condry, Nikki Mullins, Amy Wellman, Jenny Niekamp, Josh Dailey, Carley Hartings, Kristen Speca, Stephanie Bruns, Kyle Blake, Beth Braun. Students who distinguished themselves by attaining perfect attendance during the first semester will also be rewarded by CHAMP.

President Siefring reminded parents that there will be no CHAMP meeting in February in order to give parents the opportunity to attend the evening meetings the Guidance Department schedules to review student registration procedures for the 2002 - 2003 school year. The meeting for parents of current high school students is scheduled for Feb. 12 at 6:30 in the lecture hall and parents of eighth graders are encouraged to attend the meeting on February 19 at 6:30 in the same location.

Minutes from the November 12, 2001 Meeting

The Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) met  on November 12 at Celina High School. Student Council officers Amber  Dingledine and Ang Kruse presented an update on student activities and the leadership conferences representatives attended. Kevin Mast, Assistant Principal, updated the parents on security training and measures that have been taken at the high school to insure the safety of the students. Cal Freeman serves as the School Resource Officer again this year.

During the general business meeting, Helen Stover read the treasurer’s report, noting that the organization has sold 60 family memberships and over 500 CHAMP discount cards. Elaine Marbaugh, Vice President of CHAMP, was awarded with the CHAMP Card Sales Award for selling over 75 CHAMP cards.

Suzanne Montgomery reported that the six businesses that initiated the Student Leadership Training Fund last year donated $1750 to the account  this year. Crown Equipment Corporation, Mercer Savings Bank and Pax Machine Works each donated $500 and Stoneco, Inc., The Peoples Bank and Stammen-Paragon Insurance Agency contributed the rest. This money allows more Student Council members to attend a greater number of leadership training conferences at the regional, state and national level.

President Siefring announced that Top Dog cards and candy will be distributed to all Honor Roll students during a lunch period. CHAMP Academic Excellence window peels will be mailed to the families of students who are new to the Honor Roll. Student athletes who attain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 - 3.49 will be presented with an Academic Achievement certificate at the end-of-the-season banquet. Those who attain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive a Scholar Athlete certificate, and junior and senior athlete with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will also receive a Scholar Athlete pin. Student athletes with a 3.0 or higher will be recognized in the football and basketball programs again this year.

CHAMP members voted to purchase an ad in the school yearbook, Anilec, congratulating the graduating senior class. Then, ten students’ names were drawn from the Lotto box, to be awarded $10 each. Names are submitted by teachers who wish to recognize students who have shown exemplary beghavior in academic or non-academic pursuits. The winners of the cash awards were Abbey Lehman, Scott Boley, Nick Grieshop, Misty Hamblin, Eric Klosterman, Courtney Georg, Andrea Bryan, Jen Vantilburg, Jaclyn Schwieterman and Courtney Newland.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Mast showed parents the Celina City Schools promotional video. The nexr CHAMP meeting will be held at the high school on Monday, January 14, immediately following the principal’s  7:00 p.m. Parent Advisory. Minutes from the October 8, 2001 Meeting



Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) met at the high school on October 8. Student Council officers Amber Dingledine and Joelle Rolfes addressed the parent group. Then, Principal Curt Shellabarger introduced Celina High School teacher June Scott, who talked to CHAMP members about the school administrators' educational program he is enrolled in at WSU - LC. Cece Wheeler discussed her role as one of two social workers in the Celina City Schools system. Mr. Shellabarger then updated parents about current developments and activities at the school.

President Carol Siefring opened the CHAMP business meeting by thanking members for their efforts in selling over 400 CHAMP discount cards. Helen Stover read the Treasurer's Report, noting that 54 families have purchased CHAMP memberships. She also reported on the Student Leadership Training Fund which was established to finance leadership training for Student Council members. Last year, CHAMP allocated $2000 to the fund.

Secretary Suzanne Montgomery read the minutes from the past meeting and then explained the new approach to business solicitation that was initiated this year.

Carol Siefring reported that CHAMP's $283.61 contribution to the World Book Online will benefit all students in the district. Each school contributed to the purchase, and students will have access to the resource in the media centers.

Carol thanked the eight businesses who are offering free items to reward Honor Roll students through the Top Dog card program. This year, the card will again include items from Subway, McDonald's, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Celina Wine Store, Pizza Hut, Domino's Pizza and On Cue. Top Dog cards and candy will be distributed to all Honor Roll students after the first three grading periods. Families of students who are new to the Honor Roll will also receive a CHAMP ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE window peel.

Ten students' names were drawn from the Lotto box to receive cash prizes. Lotto cards are awarded by teachers to students who demonstrate commendable behavior in either academic or non-academic areas. The Lotto cards are deposited in a collection box, and ten winners are selected five times a year. At the Staff Appreciation Breakfast in May, the names of ten teachers who participated in the Lotto program are drawn to receive Chamber gift certificates. The student Lotto winners for October are Laura Snyder, Lauren Wilczynski, Amber Craft, Joe Roberts, Jocelyn Huelsman, Lila Frederick, Katrina Soter, Tricia VanderHorst, Beth Braun and Amy Zender.

The next CHAMP meeting will be held at Celina High School on November 12, immediately following the 7:00 p.m. Parent Advisory. Superintendent Fred Wiswell will address the group, and all parents are invited to attend. Minutes from the September 10, 2001 Meeting



Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) held their first meeting of the new school year at Celina High School on September 10, following Principal Curt Shellabarger's 7:00 Parent Advisory Meeting. Student Council officers Amber Dingledine and Jen Ley addressed CHAMP members, giving an update on their group's activities and plans for the school year. They thanked CHAMP members for establishing the Student Leadership Training Fund, which allows Student Council members to attend many leadership training programs.

President Carol Siefring introduced the other CHAMP officers for 2001-2002: Elaine Marbaugh - Vice President; Helen Stover - Treasurer; Suzanne Montgomery - Secretary.

Suzanne Montgomery read the minutes from the last meeting, and Helen Stover read the Treasurer's report. Then, Carol Siefring reported on CHAMP discount card sales and welcomed Casa Rodriguez and East of Chicago Pizza Company to the group of 17 businesses represented on the discount card. Cards will be on sale this year for $5 at the main offices of Celina High School, Celina Middle School, Celina Intermediate School, Distinct Images, Dairy Queen, OVISCO and through CHAMP members.

It was reported that the Coldwater College Fair will be held on September 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Commons area of Coldwater High School. Parents and students were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to speak with and gather information from the representatives of many regional colleges.

Members were updated on programs and activities that are planned for the year. They voted to donate $283.61 towards the purchase of the World Book Online software that will be accessible to students through all school buildings in the district.
