Guest speaker Marcia Helentjaris, Career Development Coordinator for Celina City Schools, will discuss the new job shadow program, materials, and opportunities for high school students. Find out how your student can benefit.
Dan Varn, Rotary Club President-Elect, will introduce the new Life Skills Day in which all CHS juniors will participate on March 10 and 11. Both speakers will talk about ways the school and family can help students plan and prepare for their future.
In addition, the high school Guidance counselors will address parents, and Mr. Luebke will discuss current developments and activities at the high school.

Change of Meeting Date
CHAMP members invite you to the next CHAMP/Parent Advisory meeting on Monday, January 14 (changed from January 7 to allow Buckeye fans to watch the game). We will meet in the high school media center at
7:00 p.m. The guest speaker will be Aaron D. Kuhn, M.S., L.P.C., L.I.C.D.C. He is completing his doctorate degree in Psychology and is currently in practice with Dr. Crystal Oswalt, specializing in psychotherapy.
Kuhn’s topic “The Psychological Impact of Technology on Young People Today” is important to all parents of teenagers. He will discuss:
· the impact of technology (text messaging, cell phone calls, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms, Facebook, etc.) on children, especially in relation to attention skills and anxiety levels
· cyberbullying, which is on the rise and recently contributed to the suicide of Megan Meier
· ways in which text and instant messaging slang impair students’ abilities to write well
·
the effect that posting inappropriate information and photos
online can have
on an individual’s reputation/self- esteem
· guidelines parents can establish for safe, healthy use of technology
In addition, Guidance counselors Lynne Carmean and Wendy Gabes will talk to parents about course selection and registration for the 2008-2009 school year. Principal Jason Luebke will give an update about programs and activities at the high school.

Monday, Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m., CHS Media Center
Guest speakers Marcia Helentjaris, Career Development Coordinator for Tri Star Career Compact, and Ms. Kelly Jay, English teacher and job-shadowing advisor for St. Marys High School, will talk to parents about the following topics:
· how to help your student focus on his/her interests and possible college majors/careers
· the new CHS program that helps all sophomores plan for the future
·
resources available at CHS and online to assist in the selection
of college majors and
career exploration
· the benefits to all students of job-shadowing while in high school
Hand-outs will be available for parents, and the professionals will welcome your questions. In addition, Principal Jason Luebke will speak, and CHS Guidance counselors will discuss the Junior Timeline.

Join us on Monday, Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school media center for the first CHAMP meeting of the school year. Our guest speakers will be Dr. Stephen Motika, Director of Student Services at WSU-LC and Corrie Wright, M.A., Academic Advisor/Academic Counseling and Career Services at IU-PU Ft. Wayne. These dynamic college professionals will answer your questions and provide valuable information about the college and vocational school search and application process. Students and parents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to get the inside scoop!
In addition, we will hear CHS Guidance counselors Lynne Carmean and Wendy Gabes talk about college entrance testing (PLAN, PSAT, ACT, SAT), which affects students in grades 10-12. They will also discuss what seniors should be doing now to prepare for college and vocational school application. Take advantage of this chance to benefit from their expertise and get your questions answered.
During the Parent Advisory you will meet the new CHS principal, Mr. Jason Luebke. He will share his vision for our high school and talk about a variety of topics that affect our students.
At the end of the evening, CHAMP will conduct a brief business meeting. We value your ideas and input on how CHAMP can best serve the school community.
