CHAMP offers the Ohio Career Information System (OCIS)

Marcia Helentjaris, Career Development Coordinator for Tri Star Career Compact
Recently, members of the Celina High Academic and Motivational Promoters (CHAMP) gathered at Celina High School for a Parent Advisory/CHAMP meeting. Guest speaker Marcia Helentjaris, Career Development Coordinator for Tri Star Career Compact, explained the many opportunities available to students through the Tri Star program. She also discussed the Ohio Career Information System. OCIS is a computer based program designed to help teens and adults explore occupations; assess skills and interests; research programs of study and training; learn about colleges, universities and sources of financial aid; and develop job search skills. Also included is an Ideas Career Assessment which is a tool that allows students to investigate the occupations and related coursework that best match their interests. OCIS is updated every six months and can be used at school or at home by typing in a password. Information about OCIS and the password will be included with midterm progress reports in February. Parents are encouraged to review the program and use it to help their students identify their interests and skills and begin career exploration early during their high school career.
Students and businesses who wish to participate in job shadowing, mentoring or internships should contact Celina Guidance counselors. CHAMP paid the $475 annual fee to provide the OCIS service at the high school. It will also be available for Celina Middle School students and parents.
