Arts Students Tour New York

Art students from Celina High School experienced the trip of a lifetime during a four day whirlwind tour of New York City on the Art Appreciation Tour. The excursion began on March 20 when 16 students and 2 chaperones traveled by air (flying out of Dayton) on an early flight and touched down at LaGuardia International to meet their Tour Escort and board a private motor coach . The group hit the ground running with a tour of the Museum of Modern Art, Times Square, and the Broadway performance "Mamma Mia". Leaving their Hyatt Hotel the next morning for the Hammer Gallery where they met up with CHS Alum, Katharine Green, students got to ask her about her art career and her life in NYC. They then toured the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Cloister's Museum. Later in the evening they enjoyed the theater ~ Off Broadway Show “Stomp”. On Saturday, they took a fun ride on a Ferry to the island of the Statue of Liberty and to historic Ellis Island as well as a bus tour of the financial district to include Wall Street, NYSE, and Federal Hall. They walked through the new 9/11 Memorial Park, St. Paul's Church and Trinity Church. “Newsies” , another Broadway show delighted them as an evening venue. Sunday was a hectic day to accomplish the final day of the trip with a walking tour through Central Park, a visit to Rockefeller Center, the NBC Store and St. Patrick's Cathedral with some time for shopping at the famous 5th Avenue department stores. Last stop was the Guggenheim Museum before boarding the plane at LaGaurdia for a lovely evening flight and a cool view of the city lights below. Click Here for Photos.
