RESEARCH  PAPER

  

  1. Class Presentation. (10 pts.)
    1. Introduction.   Does the student introduce the subject, and perhaps indicate how or why the subject was chosen?  Or, does the student just launch directly into the research (3. below) without any indication of where they are going with the project?
    2. Sources.  Does the student indicate how he/she went about doing  research, where the information was found (or not found)?
    3. Main points.  Does the student sum up the main points of the research clearly and concisely?
    4. Conclusion.  Does the student clearly provide his/her own conclusions on the subject?  Are the student’s conclusions based on research, or is the student just spouting unsupported opinions?
  1. Cover page.  (10 pts.) Does the cover page provide all the basic information:  name; course name; title of paper; date?
  2. Introduction.  (10 pts.) Does the student introduce the subject adequately, providing some indication of where they are going with the subject?  What will you prove?  What is your thesis/theory?
  3. Body of the paper. (50 pts.) Is the research presented in a clear, straightforward, logical manner?  Does the paper present any of the student’s own ideas, or is it just wholesale copying of research materials?   Is there plagiarism – does the student use quotation marks where appropriate?  Does the student make clear where the main ideas are coming from,  source references, and PROVIDE INTERNAL REFERENCES (author, date) where appropriate?  Is this section at least 5 full pages long, double-spaced, maximum 12 pt. Font?  (Lengthy quotes should be singe-spaced, indented)
  4. Conclusion.  (10 pts.) (Does the student “wrap up” the paper in a paragraph that summarizes his/her OWN conclusions.  This conclusion should emphasize  what the student sees as the most important “proof” he/she has presented?
  5. Reference List  (10 pts.) Does the student make an honest attempt to use A.P.A. style in a neat, consistent manner?  Is the information provided in such a way that the reader can easily find the source material? Recommendation: USE YOUR “NOODLE TOOLS” log-in to format your references.
