Ms. Toma Hainline’s Civil Rights Students Host Abolitionist Gallery Walk
Madeline Luebke as Sarah Grimke with Frau Sarah Zabka listening.

Ms. Toma Hainline’s coursework in her Civil Rights classes calls for a research project and presentation. For several years, the students have been involved in finding a Famous Abolitionist to research and writing a report on that person. Dressing as their character and doing a presentation in their classroom completes the project.  Taking it one step further, they plan an event in the high school media center so that the entire student body and staff have the opportunity to learn as well. Featured in the Gallery Walk held during lunch on November 20, 2018 were: Neil Bellu – as abolitionist William Still; Adam Stachler – Thomas Garrett; Madeline Luebke – Sarah Grimke; David Aias - William Lloyd Garrison; Ashley Allen – as Sojourner Truth; Sky Jackson - Frederick Douglass; Nathan Albers - John Brown and Jared Zimmerly – portraying Levi Coffin. As guests walked around the perimeter of the media center, each character came to life and told their personal story.
