Dear Parent or Guardian,
We welcome your child to Celina Middle School! I will be his/her Special Education Intervention Specialist for the 2020-2021 school year. Our Teacher’s Assistants, Mrs. Fetters and Mrs. Laffin, join me in both Room 26 and the general education settings. It will be an exciting time for all of us as we tackle new academic tasks in light of the virus challenges. We will keep you well informed of weekly progress, as consistent communication is the key to our success!
In the spring of 2021, seventh and eighth graders will again participate in the Ohio State Assessments. With this undertaking in mind, our class will review concepts three times weekly during FLEX and Academic Dawg-Time periods. Current research shows that when students take opportunities to revisit their learning in short boosts in an extended way, the material sticks with them.
If your son or daughter receives a “test-read” accommodation on their IEP, we will arrange for someone with whom they have developed trust to read the tests to them. A familiar voice can remind us all of what we have previously learned. We want to give the students every advantage to perform at their best level through this option.
Students will have frequent opportunities to study together, although social-distantly, both in Room 26 and in their core classes. Their study surroundings positively affect memory and bring related ideas together. The children also share learning styles with each other; some learn by hearing, and some by working with models. With enough chances for group learning, the students will carry the experience forward.
We encourage you to contact us if your child is having academic, social, physical, or behavioral problems. In Room 26, we welcome all families, school staff, and community members to foster your student's experience. If your child becomes discouraged, notify us and we will get to the source of the problem together. You may call the school, send a note, or email me directly: [email protected] If you choose to call, you may reach us directly at (419) 586-8300 x 2019.
We teachers have recently learned along with our students; we have changed our practices to reflect our new ideas. Your help and support will make the year a positive experience for your son or daughter. We consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child’s teachers and look forward to working closely with you. Thank you in advance for your continued dedication and cooperation with us.
