Chuck Sellars is a 1981 graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1986, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. After teaching at his alma mater, he attended Miami University where he earned a Master's Degree in Music Education, and served as University Bands Graduate Assistant and taught Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Winter Athletic Bands, Applied Music (Clarinet), and Woodwind Methods. During this time, he served as principal clarintetist with the Sorg Opera Company and Whitewater Opera Company orchestras, and in 1996, he appeared as a guest artist on Michele Gingras' internationally released CD, "Old World Meets New World," performing on Bass Clarinet. He has done additional post-graduate work at Bowling Green State University, Illinois State University and Ball State University.
Mr. Sellars has been teaching in Celina City Schools since 1996, and currently serves as Director of Bands and Music Department Chairman. He is the Director of all of the High School Bands, assists with the Middle School Bands, and teaches High School courses in Music Theory, Guitar, and History of American Popular Music. Under his direction, the Celina Marching, Concert and Symphonic Bands have all earned numerous Excellent and Superior ratings at the regional and state level, and are recognized for their excellence. He was a member of the West Ohio Big Band (in which he played tenor and alto sax), and the classic rock group "Childz Play" with former Celina Band Director John Stetler, playing Guitar, Keyboards, and Bass, and singing backup and occasional lead vocals.
He is also an active member of the Ohio Music Education Association, and has served as OMEA District III President, Northwest Region Chair, and as a member of the OMEA State Board. He served on the Solo & Ensemble Music Selection Committe in 1997, and repeatedly as District III Mini-Conference Chairman, Junior High Festival Chair and Large Group Adjudicated Events Chair.
Mr. Sellars has also worked as a software engineer, programmer, system administrator, and technical support representative, and spent seven years as a nursing attendant in the Emergency Department at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati. He also served as a Mercer County Emergency Management Agency Volunteer for a few years and is a trained weather spotter and self-described "weather geek."
Mr. Sellars is an avid NASCAR and dirt track racing fan (especially sprint cars), and enjoys NFL Football, camping, riding his wave runner on beautiful Grand Lake and cooking. He lives in Celina with his dog Bristol.
