Kaylie and Joscelyn Dameron qualify for the State Championship Meet!

Saturday, October 31 Celina's Runnin' Women, coming off their District Championship on October 24, participated in the Division 2 Tiffin Regional Meet!  Twelve teams and 14 individuals competed for spots in the November 7, OHSAA State Division 2 Girls Cross-Country Championship Race.  In order to earn the coveted spots teams needed a top 4 finish, while individuals needed a top 16 placing.  Tiffin's Hedges-Boyer Park 5000m course was the site on a brisk, sunny Saturday afternoon.  For the second year in a row the Celina Runnin' Women were looking to advance as a team to 'State'.  Unfortunately, it was not to be as the Gals, gave their best efforts, but in the end finished 8th in the team scoring.  Defending State Champion, and 2020 favorite Lexington took the top spot.  Other advancing teams were Galion, Lima Shawnee, and Wauseon.

Individually, Kaylie and Joscelyn Dameron continued their outstanding seasons.  Both improved on last year's Regional placings and times.  Kaylie, a sophomore, finished Regional Runner-Up (8th in 2019) with a clocking of 18:43.3. Joscelyn, a junior, 19th in 2019 jumped to 6th place Saturday with her personal best time of 19:12.3.  With their efforts the duo earned spots at the State Championship Meet.  Senior Kyleah Giesige improved on her 2019 Regional race by placing 62nd (81st in 2019) and tripping the timer at 22:29.2, :24 faster than last year.  Freshman Tatum Andrew, in her first regional competition was 68th in 22:47.3.  Close behind was senior Rose Kraner (71st, 22:49.5).  Completing the Regional 7 were freshman Aliyah King (93rd, 24:55.6) and senior Sammy Exman (97th, 26:07.4).

2020 District Championship

RUNNIN' WOMEN ARE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!
Men place 9th.

Celina's CC Contingent began post season action Saturday, October 24, with participation in the Northwest Findlay Owens Community College District Meet.  The Boys competed in the Division 1, District 1 race, while the Girls took part in Division 2.  Athletes and teams were competing for births in the October 31, Tiffin Regional Championship.  In order to advance to the Regional level, individual athletes needed a top 16 placing, while teams were shooting for a top 4 position.  Another nice day for running set up for good competition.

The CHS Ladies looked to defend their District Division 2 Championship from 2020.  Fifty-five girls, representing 10 schools, traversed the 5000m Owens Community College course looking for those Regional qualifying spots.  By race's end the Runnin' Women of Celina accomplished their individual and 'team' goals.  As has been the case most of the season, Kaylie and Joscelyn Dameron led the Bulldog Pack, finishing 1-2 in the individual standings.  Seniors Rose Kraner and Kyleah Giesige ran career fastest times as they crossed the line in the 7th and 11th spots respectively.  By virtue of their top 16 placings, all 4 Girls earned 'All District' honors.  Tatum Andrew closed out the scoring 5 as she took 19th.  Aliyah King was 36th and Sammy Exman 43rd to complete the scoring 7.  Celina's point total of 37 was the best of the 10 schools in the field.  The Ladies defended their title as DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!  Eastwood took second with 46, followed by Liberty-Benton 48 and Upper Sandusky 128.  The Girls now get the privilege of competing at Tiffin Regional, with a chance to earn a second consecutive trip to the State Championship Meet on 11/7/20.

The Boys, competing as the smallest Division 1 school in the District (and the State for that matter), faced stiff competition.  Twelve schools, represented by 76 harriers competed for the 4 team or 16 individual regional spots.  Sophomore Conor Krogman was 'Top Dog' for the Celina Men as he placed 37th.  Collin Williams was 50th followed closely by Logan Goettemoeller in 51st.  Logan covered the 5000m distance in a career fastest time.  Ty Drexler in 53rd, along with Cole HItchcock at 56th scored for the Guys.  Andrew Backs ran a personal best time in crossing the line 61st.  Taking 66th was Zane Bowsher.  In the 'Team' standings, CHS 's total of 247 put it 9th in the field.  The Regional qualifying schools included champion Bowling Green (65), Perrysburg (67), Anthony Wayne (84), and Sylvania Southview (112).  The Guys season closes out with the District Meet.

2020 WBL Championship Meet

WHAT A DAY FOR THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS
at the Western Buckeye League Championship Meet!
Girls finish 2nd, Boys 6th
16 of 18 Dogs run career fastest times!
The other 2 run season best times!
Kaylie Dameron WINS the Girls Championship, running the fastest time in the history of the Girls WBL Championship.

Another perfect morning for cross country greeted the 10 schools of the Western Buckeye League as they converged on the grounds of Elida High School for participation in the annual WBL Championship Meet!  Sunny skies, little to no wind, crisp temperatures, a fast course and intense competition set the stage for outstanding races as athletes and team vied for league bragging rights.

The day began with the High School Girls race.  A number of teams had visions of taking the winner's trophy, but only one could prevail.  In maybe the closest scoring in the history of the league, Van Wert took the top spot.  It wasn't easy, as Celina's Runnin' Women and Shawnee were right on VW's heels.  So close, that it took the tie breaker (6th runner) to decide the 'team' champion.  Van Wert and Celina tied at the top with 71 points each.  Shawnee was just 2 points behind, with 73.  Van Wert was awarded the Championship based on its number 6 runner placing 26th, to Celina's sixth runner's 45th.
Individually, Celina's sister combo of Kaylie and Joscelyn Dameron dominated the field.  Kaylie ran away with the individual title, crossing the line in a career fastest time of 18:31.05.  The time established a new WBL Championship Meet standard.  Joscelyn took second place with a mark of 19:14.04 (a personal best time by nearly :30).  Josc was :30 ahead of the 3rd place runner from Ottawa-Glandorf.  Kaylie and Joscelyn earned 'First Team All WBL' honors by virtue of being a top 12 finisher.  Rose Kraner ran the fastest race of her career as she placed 18th of the 78 harriers.  Her placing garnered her 'Special Mention All WBL' (plcers 13-22).  Kyleah Giesige and Tatum Andrew rounded out the scoring 5, by taking the 25th and 28th spots.  Both Ladies established new personal records.  Tatum knocked almost 1:00 off her previous best.  Aliyah King (50th, personal best time), Sammy Exman (52nd, personal best time), Alecia Eischen (53rd, personal best time), Zoey Aukerman (59th, season best time), and Sammie Winner (73rd, personal best time) also competed.  In total, 9 of the 10 Celina Gals set personal records, with the 10th running a season best.  A GREAT day for the Runnin' Women.

The Boys took center stage after the Girls.  Celina's Runnin' Men were looking to follow the Gals example and run the fastest times of their careers, letting the 'team' results fall where they may.  Just like the Women, the Men kicked butt, with 7 of the 8 CHS Guys beating their previous individual records.  The 8th set a season fastest mark.  Conor Krogman led the Bulldog Pack as he crossed 26th of the 128 finishers.  Conor broke the 18:00 barrier for the first time, running 17:48.56.  Cole Hitchcock and Collin Williams were 35th and 37th, crushing their previous best clockings.  Hitting the line under 19:00 for the first time were Ty Drexler and Logan Goettemoeller.  Ty ran 18:48.91 in finishing 53rd.  Logan tripped the clock at 18:52.89, for 57th.  Zane Bowsher ran a season best time in finishing 73rd, while Andrew Backs broke the 20:00 barrier for the first time, placing 78th in 19:57.45.  Ethan Kohler posted a new benchmark as he placed 124th.
Van Wert defeated defending champion Defiance by 2 points to take the Boys Title.  VW amassed 48, to Defiance's 50.  Shawnee was 3rd with 68.  Celina's quintet of scorers (Conor, Cole, Collin, Ty, Logan) finish points added up to 174, placing the Green and White 6th of the 10 team field.
