1. Individual Counseling

Individual Counseling may be short or long-term depending on the situation/problem. A student may choose or be referred for individual counseling by a teacher, parent, or principal for a variety of reasons. Many personal and school related problems can have a direct impact on a child's ability to learn. Issues that a counselor may address with students include:

  1. Peer Relations
  2. School Performance
  3. Anxiety
  4. Grief/Loss
  5. Family Change
  6. Self-Esteem
  7. Anger Management
  8. Conflict Resolution
  9. Hygiene
  10. Choices & Behavior
  11. Social Skills

Many times, students will request a visit with the counselor regarding a situation that occurred at school, and we will meet briefly to try to resolve the situation. If the problem/situation resulted in some type of consequence, the student will meet with the principal. The counselor does NOT see students for discipline, but rather to assist in conflict resolution so that the student can return to class. If the student requires ongoing counseling, the parent/guardian will be contacted.

Some issues require more in-depth counseling with a licensed professional counselor at an outside agency. Your school counselor can assist you with more resources in the community for counseling.

According to Ohio Law, all school personnel are mandated to report child abuse and neglect. The reporter must do so if they have reason to believe that a child seen in the course of their professional duties has been a victim of abuse or neglect, or threatened with abuse and neglect and the person has reason to believe the threats will be carried out. Every instance of child abuse must be reported no matter when it happened or where it happened.
