Celina City Schools Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week and National Teacher Day
Dr. Ken Schmiesing (left) accepts Sealed Mayoral Proclamation from Mayor Jeff Hazel.

During the week of May 7-11, 2018, the Parent Teacher Organization ~ Celina Combined Parent Organization treated all staff in their elementary buildings to delicious foods during Teacher Appreciation Week. The Celina Education Association ~ Professional Relations Committee placed celebratory posters in each school building to show support and appreciation and the principals issued special announcements. CEA also used email messages with inspiring educational quotes and supportive messages to recognize all staff throughout the week in recognition of their hard work and dedication. CEA donated $50.00 to each of the school libraries to purchase books for the students. Celina Mayor Jeff Hazel (above right) issued a sealed Proclamation celebrating the week’s events.  The mayor spoke about the school system being an integral component of our entire community, and how much he appreciates all of the staff’s hard work and dedication to our students.  He presented the Proclamation to Superintendent Ken Schmiesing.

American Education Week 2017
Dr. Ken Schmiesing accepts a Proclamation from Mayor Jeff Hazel in honor of American Education Week 2017. American Education Week 2017 Planned by CEA in Celina Schools

"American Education Week (AEW) spotlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education from kindergarten through college, and the need for everyone to do his or her part in making public schools great." (National Education Association website,). AE Week is coming up November 13-17, 2017.

Celina Mayor Jeff Hazel presented a Proclamation for American Education Week to Dr. Schmiesing last Monday at the Rotary Meeting. A picture was taken then for publicity. The proclamation was displayed all week at the Education Complex main office. This elegantly sealed and framed document from Mayor Hazel and the City of Celina, in support of Celina City Schools, will now be posted at Celina Elementary School.

As organizer for the event, the CEA Professional Relations Committee, which includes, Carol Bader, Betsy Crites, Amanda Moore, Jackie Mertz, Brittany Green and Sheila Baltzell would like to congratulate everyone, including board members, teachers, administrators, support staff, substitutes and volunteers at Celina Schools for all they do for Celina School children.

Activities planned in the buildings include: candy treats for all staff; posters; morning announcements; and encouraging emails. Celina Education Association also is sponsoring 5 - $100 mini-grants to teachers who submit an idea for a special lesson or activity they intend to use in their classroom and need some financial backing. Applications are being taken now. Winners will be announced after the first of the year. At that time we will do a check presentation at a board meeting so we can all see who won and hear about their projects.

In addition, the local Parent Organization, CCSCO, plans to serve dinner from a couple of local restaurants both nights of Parent Teacher conferences in November for the staffs of Celina Primary School, Celina Elementary Schol and Celina Intermediate School, a wonderful and deeply appreciated treat!

So in conclusion, we are looking forward to American Education Week.
